I was at the post office mailing a package, and outside of the post office was a gentleman sitting on the retaining wall. On my way out of the post office, I stopped to talk with him about life and random things. He wasn't having a very good day. As I went to leave, I handed him the $10 and told him that I couldn't change his situation, but I could treat him to lunch. I wished him well and told him that I hope his luck would turn around.
He was dumbfounded. I don't think very many people even acknowledged him...let alone listened to his story. I couldn't change his situation, but at least I gave him hope and made his day a little better.
